The BistroHomey Manual
Read Before Putting on the Apron
Use them as maps, not laws. No sweat if you miss a timing by a minute or a gram of spice. Cooking should be a fun exploration, not an exam.
In Thailand, “food oβclock” is anytime. You won’t find rigid “Breakfast vs. Dinner” categories here. Eat what you love, whenever you crave it.
My heart (and my Ducasse training) lies in savory dishes. Youβll find the occasional pastry and dessert, but we are primarily here for salt, spice, and umami.
No stiff “Appetizer vs. Main” rules, and serving sizes are purely guidelines. Scale up a starter or scale down a platter to your heartβs content. Communal sharing is always encouraged (think Spanish tapas or Ethiopian injera feast).
BistroHomey operates on a flexible framework where dishes are made from modular Elements. Mix and match these components to build your ideal plate, or reuse a single element across completely different meals:Β
Foundation: Starches & grains anchors
Centerpiece: Focal point protein or plant-based stars
Garden: Fresh vegetables, fruits, and bright salads
Simmer: Deep-flavor liquids: broths, soups, stews, stocks, and curries
Drizzle: Sauces, reductions, condiments, infused oils, and emulsions
Ensemble: Integrated, one-pot / one-pan complete meals
Bites & Breaks: Amuse-bouches, snacks, palate cleansers, and entremets
Finale: Sweet endings
I hate clickbait titles promising a β15-minute mealβ only to find out that you need half an hour of peeling and chopping, or a surprise overnight marinade in step 4. My recipe times account for real-world prep and active effort so guests donβt arrive while your chicken is still half-cooked. When passive cooking takes over (like slow roasting or marinating), youβll know exactly how much hands-off time you have to step back and relax.
βEasyβ is relative, and daily energy levels vary. Instead of intimidating difficulty ratings that make you feel like a contestant on Top Chef,Β I invite you to follow my Tempo cues to match your bandwidth:Β
Quick Fix: Emergency rescue
Daily Ritual: Weeknight flow
Deep-Dive: A Sunday project
Showdown: Hosting galore
Workshop: Pantry prep
(And remember: keep a glass of wine nearby whenever you need a sip and a breath! π·)
You don’t need a TV studio kitchen. Iβll show you how to achieve great results with what you have, and share honest reviews on the gadgets I actually use.
Most recipes reflect Paris market availability, but I will always do my best to suggest practical substitutes for your local grocery store.
To keep things authentic, I avoid ingredients I personally dislike: raw onions, mustard, horseradish, wasabi, dill, and celery. Iβll share how to add them if you mustβbut they aren’t invited to my kitchen party!
Only what I crave, whatβs available at the markets across from my house, whatβs sitting in my fridge, and what I can transform out of leftovers.
Every culture celebrates differently, so you wonβt find rigid holiday or festival schedules here. Good food is inclusive and doesnβt need a calendar date to justify making it.

General & Backstage
I must confess: “BistroHomey” was a long time in the making. I was determined to avoid generic suffixes like “Kitchen” or “Cuisine”βI wanted something sticky, unique, and genuinely rooted in my story and identity. After months of finding every good idea already domain-squatted, the eureka moment finally hit. I realized my sweet spot sits right at the intersection of my 25+ years of home cooking, bistro-style dinner hosting, and my adoration for the Parisian bistronomy scene.
Connecting those three dots made everything click (and the domain was availableβyay!). It might be a slight tongue-twister on the first read, but say it twice and it sticks!
Bistronomy bridges fine-dining technique with relaxed bistro culture. “Bistronomy made homey” translates that philosophy for a real-life home kitchen. I take the flavor foundations and discipline from my Γcole Ducasse training and strip away the stress, pretension, and complexityβgiving you Β bistro-quality meals built for home cooks.
Not yet! Truthfully, I rarely buy cookbooks myselfβthe ones on my shelves are gifts, heirlooms, or my mother-in-lawβs self-published family legend (which remains my most-consulted physical reference). That said, if enough of you demand a physical BistroHomey volume, I might just take up the challenge for my favorite readers!
Iβm deeply flattered! βΊοΈ

OMAD stands for One Meal A Day, a form of Intermittent Fasting. I started back in 2019 to fit into my wedding dress (spoiler: paired with a consistent workout schedule, it worked!). As a non-morning person, skipping breakfast came naturally. Over time, my eating window slowly pushed toward the evening, freeing up massive blocks of time while keeping my focus laser-sharp during the day. Now, dinner is my end-of-day celebrationβa hearty, nourishing feast enjoyed without counting calories. Mindful eating and daily movement have kept me energized, healthy, and feeling great.Β

Recipes & cooking
Everywhere! (And staying true to my Thai DNA, I think about food literally 24/7.) My inspiration is a total melting pot: my Thai-Chinese motherβs intuitive cooking, my German mother-in-lawβs classic traditions, recipes taught to me by international friends during my student years in Germany and working years in Kenya, and flavor discoveries from my global travels. Add to that the seasonal produce from the market across from my house, intriguing texture pairings from dining out, and the deep corners of the internet when a hyper-specific craving strikes.
Every creation is driven by an obsession to twist, fuse, and balance diverse ingredients and techniques into a bold, harmonious surprise for your taste buds.
Absolutely! From initial concept to final sign-off, every recipe is 100% developed, tested, and tweaked by me. I wear every failure and kitchen disaster like a badge of honor because they are what guarantee a bulletproof recipe for you. My husband Nicolas and our brave friends and family serve as my lucky (and occasionally long-suffering) guinea pigs through countless iterations before a recipe earns its diploma on the Recipes page.
Whenever possible, I include tailored substitution notes under Chefβs Variations or the recipe-specific FAQ. That said, swapping ingredients will naturally shift the final flavor and texture, so you may need to adjust seasonings and steps as you go. If you have a specific pantry dilemma, drop a comment directly on that recipe page. Iβll reply personally as soon as I can, and curious cooks with the exact same question will thank you for asking.
Yes! My recipe cards use the WP Recipe Maker plugin powered by the Spoonacular API to generate automated nutrition labels per serving. Treat these numbers as helpful guidelines rather than absolute laws. Even official food regulators allow up to a 20% variance on printed labels due to natural ingredient differences, cooking methods, rounding rules, and variations in testing methods.
Welcome to the clubβit happens to the absolute best of us!Β
Before you give up, let’s troubleshoot:
Double-Check the Map: Did a step get skipped, a key ingredient get missed, or the timing slip in the rush?
Account for Your Hardware: Ovens, cooktops, and pan materials vary wildly in heat delivery. A “medium flame” on my stove might be a blowtorch on yours!
Observe & Trust Your Senses: Pay attention to how the food looks, smells, feels, and tastes as it cooks so you can adjust in real time. As the Manual says: recipes are your friends, not your supervisors.
Fun fact: many iconic dishes in history like Tarte Tatin (a burnt apple tart flipped upside down) and molten lava cake (pulled out of the oven too early)Β were born from kitchen accidents, so your “mishap” might just be your next signature twist!Β
If youβre still stumped, send me a message with a recap of what happenedβIβd love to put on my detective hat and figure it out with you.
While Iβm not a professional nutritionist, I am deeply health-conscious and cook for my Type-1 diabetic husband at home. As a result, my kitchen is naturally inclusive and adaptable across various lifestylesβincluding Dairy-Free, Diabetic Diet, Gluten-Free, Low-Carb, Low-Fat, Low-Salt, Nut-Free, Vegan, Vegetarian, and Whole-Food options. Although no single recipe can accommodate every diet, my core promise is simple: adapting for health will never mean compromising on big, bold flavor.
(Note: Always consult your medical advisor or nutritionist for personal dietary requirements.)
Food culture across the globe is gloriously diverse, and the definition of what is “healthy” or “moral” varies wildly from one kitchen to the next. I celebrate this diversity through a wide spectrum of recipes. I trust my readers to approach cooking with an open mind, choosing the ingredients, swaps, and recipes that best align with their personal values, health goals, and comfort zones.
low-stress & low-waste
Many people love eating great food but dread the kitchen chaos, mess, and stress that often come with making it. I want to show that with the right workflow, cooking can be as enjoyable as the meal itself. My low-stress framework comes from a blend of three core ingredients:
Professional Discipline: Formal culinary training that treats even the smallest kitchen as a functional, integrated system.
The Economist Mindset: My background in economics, where optimization and efficiency are the primary objectives.
Type-A Organization: A natural passion for intuitive workflows, visual structure, streamlined systems, and micro-details.
These habits have kept my head clear and my countertops clean across every kitchen Iβve called home over the yearsβand I hope theyβll do the same for yours.
As a former development and agricultural economist, letting food and resources go to waste pains me deep inside! In my nerd brain, Iβm always seeking to “maximize utility” so every cent, minute, drop and ingredient delivers full value. My inspiration comes from watching how my mother and mother-in-law manage their family kitchens, how Γcole Ducasse and Michelin-starred kitchens turn prep scraps into plate-worthy components and staff meals, and 25+ years of real-world home cooking.Β
Every guide is designed to stretch your grocery budget without sacrificing flavor or feeling like you’re eating sad leftovers. Plus, kitchen waste isnβt just about foodβyour time, energy, water, and electricity count too, and we want to conserve those just as fiercely!
Through modular Element repurposing, strategic leftover transformations, and practical zero-waste storage techniques. Instead of throwing away half-used herb bundles, vegetable trims, duck confit fat, roasted chicken bones, or odds and ends in the back of your fridge, Iβll show you how to turn them into a shiny new Element that elevates your next meal.
Absolutely not! A low-waste kitchen isn’t about picture-perfect, Instagram-worthy glass jar collections. Itβs about practical habits using basic tools you already own: repurposed jam jars, takeaway tubs, standard freezer bags, and storage tips so fresh ingredients last twice as long.
