25+ Years of Global Flavors

Thai-Chinese Roots, an Economist’s Mind, a Ducasse Diploma, and a Germano-Afro-Franco Life

I love and live to eat.☺️

For me, a meal is never just fuel—it’s a daily ritual of discovery. Born into a Thai-Chinese family of food lovers in Bangkok, I inherited a lifelong curiosity for flavor.🇹🇭🇨🇳 My parents taught me early on that a truly satisfying meal doesn’t just fill your belly—it soothes your soul.😇

Today, I am a bit of a hybrid: an economist (plus the PhD to prove my obsession with efficiency!) and a Ducasse-trained chef.🤓👩🏻‍🍳 My path took me through a decade of studying in Germany, five years working in agricultural development in Kenya, and finally home to France. 🇩🇪🇰🇪🇫🇷

I use that “head and heart” background—along with 25+ years of living, cooking, and traveling across 55+ countries and territories on five continents—to map global flavors and make cooking smart, soulful, and effortless.🌍🫶🏼✨

From Bangkok Street Food to the Parisian Bistro: My Journey in Five Chapters

My path wasn’t a straight line—it was a global loop where every stop taught me a foundational pillar of how I cook today:

Nui and her parents enjoying a delicious and plentiful Thai meal together at home in Bangkok.

The Flavor Roots (Bangkok, Thailand) 🌱🇹🇭🇨🇳

Growing up in a food-obsessed Thai-Chinese family, life revolved around street food stalls, family woks, an endless array of restaurants, and buzzing night markets. This is where I inherited my baseline culinary instinct: a belief that food should feed the soul and bring people together.

The Student Years (Hannover, Germany) 👩🏻‍🎓🇩🇪

On a tight budget and a longing for home, I learned to recreate the soul of Bangkok using whatever I could find in local German markets (with a lot of help from Asian grocery stores!). Resourcefulness became my first—and favorite—ingredient.

Economist Nui standing with delegates and participants from African countries at a conference in Nairobi.

The Fieldwork Years (Nairobi, Kenya) 🤓🇰🇪

Working with maize farmers on climate resilience taught me deep respect for natural resources. Turning local harvests into weekend feasts for friends—and eventually helping out in a local kitchen—made me realize I was ready to hold a chef’s knife instead of a spreadsheet.

The Professional Pivot (Paris, France) 👩🏻‍🍳🇫🇷

In 2017, I rebooted my system. I traded the academic world for École Ducasse, immersion in French culinary technique, and high-heat training in Michelin-starred kitchens.

The Melting Family Pot (Bangkok, Paris, Berlin & Beyond)🌍🍽️🌎🥰🌏

My global soul found its home when I met my franco-allemand husband, Nicolas. With family ties stretching from Bangkok and Berlin to South Africa and the Southwest French countryside, our life is a constant journey—and our table is a true cultural infusion. Together, we explore the world and bring its culinary treasures home.

✨ the spark behind bistrohomey ✨

While I loved the adrenaline of the Parisian bistro heat, I quickly saw the hidden side of high-end gastronomy: high-stress chaos, burn-out culture, and staggering food waste. It simply wasn’t a sustainable way to live—or cook.

Faced with a choice between returning to high-level development economics at the World Bank, pursuing another degree in art history, or staying in the culinary world, I realized I didn’t have to choose. I could have it all: taking the technique and flavor of fine dining, pairing it with economic efficiency, dashing in a touch of artistic flair, and bringing it back to where food matters most—the everyday home table.

That was the birth of BistroHomey, built on a simple promise:

“A belly is only truly happy if the kitchen is stress-free, and the process is kind to the planet and the wallet.”

Bistronomy + Home = BistroHomey 🏠🌟

BistroHomey brings the Bistronomy movement—the French art of turning elevated cuisine into something casual and accessible—straight into the cozy comfort of your own home.

I’m here to share 25+ years of global flavor infusions—that sweet, electric spot where different food cultures meet. From typical weeknight dinners and relaxed couch evenings to full multi-course dinner parties, these recipes are my real life on a plate, seasoned with low-stress rhythms and a low-waste spirit.

Beyond recipes, you’ll get practical shortcuts, economic cues, and thoughtful nudges to make your cooking experience as delicious to your taste buds as it is kind to your mental well-being and wallet.

why another food blog? 🤔

In a world of AI-generated content and fleeting viral clips, BistroHomey is human, not an algorithm. Every word here is crafted by me, and every recipe has been cooked, tasted, and served at my own table. You are receiving more than two decades of real, lived culinary experience— not a recycled database.

As the solo creator behind this digital home bistro, I’ve poured my heart and soul into making this a place that feeds your curiosity, respects your time, and eases your cooking and hosting friction. I sincerely hope you enjoy these recipes and kitchen tips as much as I love creating them for you. 🥰
